Mary Hubbard

Babbling towards coherency.

I have always been deeply affected by color.  I see it but I also feel it.  Silk and wool are my preferred mediums.  I love the luminosity of silk and am only now learning about the deep beauty of wool felt.

Fiber in general holds the possibility of a more direct, whole body interaction that works with a variety of senses.  I want to create art that works towards dissolving the boundaries between object and viewer.

The craft of fiber traditions – in all its manifestations – intrigues, fascinates and humbles me.  I have studied many traditions and have deep respect for the artisan’s hand.  I have borrowed, adapted and made my own – from a large array of techniques.  I mix and match so that I might use what intuitively feels appropriate to convey the meaning and energy of the piece.
